Should I update my emergency phone technology before the PSTN line (copper wires) are disconnected?

Yes. It is essential to ensure your Duress & Emergency Telephones are operating under approved conditions and you are not breaching statutory legislation. It is also important to place your order early as we cannot guarantee there will be enough time for installation and testing if you wait until the last couple of weeks before your rollover to nbn™.

How does Duress & Emergency Telephony work?

The unit uses Telstra’s cellular network, with an alternative network deployed to ensure the phone is operational 24/7, 365. The DET unit comes standard with twelve hours of battery backup powering the unit in the event of a power failure. The DET service is proactively monitored for system health by our expert consultants, with a comprehensive maintenance schedule ensuring the unit is connected. All inclusive in the monthly bill.

How many units do I need if I have multiple emergency phone requirements?

One of our Romteck DET units can operate up to four emergency lines providing all terminate in the same MDF, IDF or Lift Motor Room.

I have a Duress Phone / BMU / Carpark Bollard - will DET work for me?

Yes. Our Romteck DET service supports all of the above emergency telephony services. For further clarification on compatibility with your requirements please complete a Service Scope Request.

What is included in my contract?

  • Cost of the DET unit (3G Gateway)

  • 4G/5G modem upgrade

* Site audits and installations in remote areas are subject to additional fees for travel time.

How long does an individual unit take to install?

Standard installation of a DET unit will generally take between 1.5 and 2.5 hours.

If I require more than one DET unit, will I incur any additional monthly fees?

Yes. Each unit is sold as a service that includes the cost of the unit, installation, maintenance and proactive monitoring. Each unit can have multiple services connected to it but they must terminate at the same distribution frame.

Is the DET unit compatible with communications equipment that typically provide an emergency line?

Yes. The DET unit is compatible with proprietary systems offered by companies such as Kone, Schindler, Otis, and Thyssenkrupp, as well as systems provided by Pixel technologies.

In most cases, existing emergency phone lines will not operate reliably in nbn connected premises; the DET unit simply replaces the existing copper wire connection with a cellular connection and is therefore compatible with all telephony infrastructure that exists for emergency services.

What happens after my 5 year contract ends?

Your service will rollover to a month-to-month service agreement and will cover 24/7 monitoring, SIM charges and hardware upgrades.

Romteck (our manufacturer) are registered on the ACMA website and the RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark) can be found on the LCD screen of the unit.


It is also a requirement for the battery powered backup solutions to be proactively monitored 24/7, 365. If the solution is not being proactively monitored, you will not know if and when there is a fault in the unit. Our DET units are proactively monitored as standard. Periodic heartbeats to our monitoring centre confirm system health & functionality.
